In Focus
The 5th Global YES Summit - Rework the World
In September 2002, more than 1600 entrepreneurs from 120 countries took part in the Alexandria Youth Employment Summit at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and eventually launched the Youth, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability (YES) Campaign. YES strives to build the individual capacity of youth in order to create sustainable livelihoods and to establish an entrepreneurial culture where young people move toward formal employment.
The YES Campaign has been convening stakeholders at YES Global Summits which have been held in Egypt 2002, Mexico 2004, Kenya 2006, and Azerbaijan 2008 to place the burning issue of youth unemployment on the global agenda.
This year, more than 2000 entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders will gather on June 2-5 in Leksand, Sweden for the 5th Global YES Summit - Rework the World, aiming at shaping new ways of working, by creating new business models, new partnerships, and new investment opportunities.
The entry point to the discussions is the employment opportunities of the future, as the summit is based on concrete and investible initiatives and ventures from all over the world. The selected initiatives fall within five areas: Energy, Water, Land, Cities, and People. The focus on concrete efforts gives an essential bottom-up dimension to the structure of the summit which will be complemented by a plenary program and a large number of discussions at a strategic level.
The aim of the summit is not only to inspire and increase knowledge, but also to showcase and take forward new and innovative solutions that create the jobs that are socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable. Work that makes a difference, jobs that matter, entrepreneurship that inspires.
The 5th Global YES Summit-Rework the World is a joint initiative of YES Inc, Swedish Tällberg Foundation, the National Council of Swedish Youth Organization, and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which is scheduled to host the 6th Global YES Summit in 2012.
